East Stroudsburg University's Madelon Powers Gallery will feature art works and portfolios of advanced students in the university art+design department in a Senior Seminar and Portfolio in Art Student Exhibition April 29 -May 8. The exhibition will include works produced by students completing independent study projects and works from selected art+design classes.

When Clare Lenhart, Ph.D., associate professor of public health at East Stroudsburg University, sat down with graduate assistant Ivan Mendoza, of Sheffield Village, Ohio, to crunch the numbers from a needs assessment of community food pantries, they found some scary statistics. About 65 percent of the pantry clients surveyed had at least one of four diet-related chronic illnesses: diabetes, hypertension, heart disease or obesity. Almost 10 percent had all four. They also found that only about a third of the food given out at local food banks are considered "foods to encourage" by health standards.

On Wednesday, April 10 students studying sport management at East Stroudsburg University welcomed NASCAR Xfinity driver Justin Haley and representatives from Pocono Raceway to ESU as part of the Pocono Raceway College Tour.

Samantha Ward, a senior at East Stroudsburg University (ESU) from Swarthmore, Pa., was ESU's finalist for the 2019 Syed R. Ali-Zaidi Award for Academic Excellence.

Christopher Lee, a junior majoring in digital media technologies from Blakeslee, Pa. won first place for "best use of video in the studio" for a video he produced for the show WESS SESH featuring artist and poet Kafar Myers. Aaron Oldfield, a senior majoring in communication studies from East Stroudsburg, Pa., won first place for "best public service announcement," for a PSA titled Suicide Prevention.

ESU Insider Theatre Alumna Earns Major Honor at Region II Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival

Lynn Nottage's drama, Sweat, which will be presented February 26-28 and March 1-3 at East Stroudsburg University, is one of the most compelling, gripping, and truthful portrayals of life in America at the beginning of the 21st century according to director Susan P. O'Hearn, professor of theatre.

A total of 1,513 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Fall 2018 semester of the 2018-2019 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students eligible for the Dean's List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better and are enrolled full-time. The letter grade "B" earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade "A" earns 4 quality points per credit.

ESU Insider ESU to Recognize Award Winners at 22nd Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast

The East Stroudsburg University chapter of Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Retired Faculties (APSCURF) has announced two recipients for its Annual 2019 Spring Semester Scholarship.

A total of 472 students will receive degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania at the Winter Commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 15 at 9:45 a.m. in Koehler Fieldhouse. There will be 422 bachelor's degrees, 46 master's degrees and four doctoral degree awarded.

Last spring, when the United States was preparing to move its embassy in Israel from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, East Stroudsburg University Dr. Sam Quainoo's public policy and administration class had a spirited discussion about the pros and cons of that controversial move.

Different majors, different goals, different stages in life. But mother and daughter Maria Ortiz-Cintron, 46, and Victoria Cintron, 22, from East Stroudsburg, have been in sync all the way through their college careers. Both will receive their ESU bachelor's degrees on December 15, Maria in communications and Victoria in Spanish. Both are Dean's List students who have won academic awards. And both are focused, motivated and determined to excel.

The East Stroudsburg University community welcomed students, faculty and staff to kick off the holiday season by signing ESU's Giant Holiday Card, a tradition now in its seventh year.

Musical pieces featuring variations on song-like forms will be highlighted in Songs for an Olden Season, the winter concert of East Stroudsburg University's Concert Band, Sunday, December 9 at 3 p.m. in Cecilia S. Cohen Recital Hall of the university's Fine & Performing Arts Center, Normal and Marguerite streets, East Stroudsburg. The performance is open to the public at no cost.
