ESU to Recognize Award Winners at 21st Annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Breakfast

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania selected the winners for the 2018 Boddie Scholarship, Martin Luther King Jr. awards, and the Julianna V. Bolt Art Contest. The winners will be recognized at the 21st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast, which will be held on January 15 in the Mattioli Recreation Center on ESU's campus from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

Fall 2017 Dean's List

A total of 1,555 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Fall 2017 semester of the 2017-2018 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs. Students eligible for the Dean's List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better and are enrolled full-time. The letter grade "B" earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade "A" earns 4 quality points per credit.

Eleven Students Participate in European Union Simulation

When the fall 2017 semester ended last December, 11 students at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania began preparing for the international European Union Simulation (Eurosim). As part of a political science course offered over winter break the students, accompanied by L. Johan Eliasson, Ph.D., professor of political science, participated in Eurosim in Brussels, Belgium from January 4-7, 2018. The rigorous, four-day exercise strives to enhance participants' knowledge of international law, the European Union (the world's largest single market, largest economy, and emerging political union, consisting of 28 member states), negotiating strategy, and diplomatic protocol, by negotiating real life legal and policy problems. The 2018 simulation was held at the Free University in Brussels.

ESU to Graduate 419 Students at Winter Commencement Exercises

A total of 419 students will receive degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania at the Winter Commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 16 at 9:45 a.m. in Koehler Fieldhouse. There will be 325 bachelor's degrees, 66 master's degrees and one doctoral degree awarded.

Communication Sciences and Disorders Major Megan Reinert Selected as Undergraduate Speaker for Winter Commencement Ceremony

Megan U. Reinert, a graduating senior majoring in communication sciences and disorders from Saint Simons Island, Ga., was selected from a pool of student speaker candidates to serve as East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania's undergraduate student speaker for the winter commencement ceremony on Saturday, December 16, at 9:45 a.m. in Koehler Fieldhouse. Undergraduate student speaker candidates must have a minimum 3.0 grade point average entering the fall semester; a demonstrated record of service to the university community and a record of citizenship and cooperation; demonstrated evidence of meaningful extra/co-curricular involvement and must be in good academic standing.

East Stroudsburg Universityas Ice Hockey team, a club sport, is currently first in the American East division and first in the Delaware Valley Collegiate Hockey Conference (DVCHC) with an 8-1-2 record. Coming off of a losing season last year, ESU has rallied with a new wave of rookie players and an all-around team chemistry.

ESU Senior Participates in Two-Day Walk

East Stroudsburg University student Elizabeth Roberts, a senior majoring in communication from Harleysville, Pa., participated in a two-day walk to benefit Multiple Sclerosis. The walk, which took place in Maryland and spanned 30 miles, worked to support the mission of the National Multiple Sclerosis Society.

ESU Project Aims to Help First-Generation College Students

To help first-generation college students, ESU launched its "1st Gen" project in September. Faculty and staff who were in the first generation of their families to go to college will be invited to wear buttons that say "1ST GEN" to identify themselves on campus for current first-generation students who have questions or just want to talk to someone who was once in their shoes. As of Fall 2016, first-generation college students made up 28.5 percent of ESU undergraduates.

Theatre Department Presents The Crucible

The East Stroudsburg University's Theatre Department will present Arthur Miller's The Crucible, October 18 and 20-22. The classic drama examines how bigoted and deceitful accusations of witchcraft in 17th-century Salem, Massachusetts created mass hysteria that resulted in the murders of innocent people.

Thanks to a grant from the East Stroudsburg University Foundation, more than 30 members of the cast and production staff of ESU's upcoming production of Arthur Miller's The Crucible were able to visit historic Salem, Massachusetts to research the sites and characters in the drama.

MEDLIFE East Stroudsburg University Invites Community to Play Dodgeball

East Stroudsburg Universityas chapter of MEDLIFE will host the 2nd Annual MEDLIFE Dodgeball Tournament on Sunday, November 19 at 5 p.m. in Koehler Fieldhouse. The tournament is open to the public. The cost of registration is $80 per team. Teams of eight, with two substitutes, can register by searching a2nd Annual MEDLIFE Dodge Ball Tournamenta website.
