Jessica E. Null, a senior at East Stroudsburg University majoring in political science and history, presented research at the Northeastern Political Science Association's 53rd Annual meeting. The meeting was held virtually, November 11-13. Kimberly S. Adams, Ph.D., professor of political science, received ESU's Summer Undergraduate Research Experience (S.U.R.E.) grant and selected Null to assist her in collecting and entering data on restrictive voter laws. The purpose of S.U.R.E. is to support faculty/student research pairs over the summer months. The goals are to develop the necessary skill set of undergraduate students to help them become student researchers and to provide faculty members with paid student research assistants. Undergraduate students selected for the program received summer pay for research tasks assigned by their faculty supervisor. By assisting faculty members in their research, students selected for the program learned the knowledge and skills necessary for conducting advanced research in their field. This grant is not intended to support students in their own thesis work. The project should be one primarily initiated by, and to support, a faculty member's research.

On Monday, November 8, a group of ESU resident advisors (RAs) participated in a basic fire extinguisher training. Nate Black, ESU's director of environmental health and safety, led the training.

A total of 1,466 students have been named to the Dean's List at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) for the Spring 2021 semester of the 2020-2021 academic year, according to Joanne Bruno, J.D., provost and vice president for academic affairs.

The newest member of East Stroudsburg University's Council of Trustees (COT), William Green, received the oath of office on Monday, June 14 from COT Chairperson, L. Patrick Ross '67 of Bartonsville.

When Hafiz Tunis Jr. was appointed to the Upper Darby Council in February 2020 at the age of 23, he was the youngest person ever to serve on the governing body of that township, which has a population larger than the City of Scranton.

ESU's department of political science and economics recently inducted 11 students into Iota Chi, ESU's chapter of Pi Sigma Alpha (the National Political Science Honor Society).

Valentina Otero's passion for her major goes deeper than assignments on a syllabus. To round out a robust course load, Otero, a senior criminal justice and psychology double major from East Stroudsburg, Pa., pursued an independent study capstone project focused on exploring the minds of female serial killers.

Graduating seniors Jennifer Estright and Brandon Teel have spent their years at East Stroudsburg University with a desire to lead and serve others. Estright, a communication and sciences disorder major from Norristown, Pa., was awarded the University Service Award for the 2020-21 academic year. Teel, a sport management major from Philadelphia, Pa., was awarded the University Leadership Award.

The Rotaract Club of ESU raised $1,245 for various charities this academic year. Rotaract, a college-level division of the Rotary International, is a service organization focused on helping those in both local and global communities.

A total of 979 students will receive degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania at four separate commencement ceremonies for each of the university colleges on May 7 and May 8. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the ceremonies will take place at Eiler-Martin Stadium in order to follow CDC guidelines and social distancing. The College of Arts and Sciences will graduate on Friday, May 7 at 5 p.m. On May 8 the College of Health Sciences will graduate at 9 a.m., the College of Business and Management at 1:30 p.m., and the College of Education at 6 p.m. A separate ceremony honoring Doctoral students from the classes of 2020 and 2021 was held on Friday, April 30. A total of 775 bachelor's degrees, 203 master's degrees and one doctoral degree will be awarded.

Nine psychology students at ESU were recently accepted into Psi Chi: The International Honor Society in Psychology.

Four students from ESU's College of Business and Management competed in the virtual 2021 Pennsylvania Sports Business Conference Case Competition on April 23.

ESU was represented for the first time at The Capstone Improvement Showcase.

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania (ESU) recognized 344 students who were scheduled to be recognized at this year's Annual Honors Convocation. The event was not held due to the Covid-19 pandemic. The Honors Convocation is sponsored by the Association of Pennsylvania State College and University Faculties (APSCUF) with support from the ESU Office of the Provost. The 344 students recognized have had great academic achievements at the university. Honor students must have of a minimum quality point average of 3.50 reflecting at least 36 semester hours of work completed at ESU, completion of at least 96 semester hours in their collegiate career by January 1 of the year in which the award is considered and a minimum of two semesters as a full-time student. Students eligible for the Dean's List are those who have attained a 3.50 quality point average or better and are enrolled full-time. The letter grade "B" earns 3 quality points per credit, and the grade "A" earns 4 quality points per credit.

A total of 447 students who will receive degrees from East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania on December 19, 2020. Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, traditional ceremonies could not take place, but all degrees will be conferred upon completion of coursework.

Fourteen psychology students from ESU were recently accepted into Psi Chi: The International Honor Society in Psychology. Psi Chi holds the distinction of being the largest student psychological organization in the world, having over 700,000 members.
