Dr. Daniel Greenstein, the fifth chancellor of Pennsylvania's State System of Higher Education, visited East Stroudsburg University on Friday, November 2 to talk to constituents about the opportunities and challenges facing the University and the State System. Chancellor Greenstein toured the ESU Innovation Center and met with ESU President, Marcia G. Welsh, Ph.D.; vice presidents, academic deans, student leaders, faculty and staff leaders, and the ESU Council of Trustees. Geographical maps can give people the lay of the land and road maps tell them how to get to where they want to go. Now East Stroudsburg University has launched a project creating maps that show the places people in the Stroudsburg and East Stroudsburg area care about.

Under a bright blue sky, more than two dozen students and faculty from China kayaked the Delaware River from the Kittatinny Point Visitors Center to Portland, Pa., guided by East Stroudsburg University students and staff last week.

Two students represented East Stroudsburg University at the Leadership Institute for Undergraduate Women. The institute provides a forum for the Pennsylvania State System of Higher Education (PASSHE) to nurture the leadership potential of women students. The Institute was held at the Mount Asbury Retreat Center in Newville, Pa. June 3-7.

East Stroudsburg University's women's rugby sevens squad is set to join 15 club teams from across the country at the 2018 Penn Mutual Collegiate Rugby Championship in Philadelphia this June.

The East Stroudsburg University Chapter of Sigma Xi, the Scientific Research Society, hosted its 43nd annual science honors banquet on April 27 at the Stroudsmoor Country Inn in Stroudsburg, Pa. At the banquet, Sigma Xi honored students from seven departments within the College of Arts and Sciences.

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania held its annual Relay for Life on Friday, April 6 in Koehler Fieldhouse. Student teams competed to raise the most money for the American Cancer Society. Nearly 500 students participated in the event and raised $25,350.68, the most money ever raised at an ESU Relay For Life event.

This semester, 35 East Stroudsburg University students in the University Honors Program met every Wednesday for six weeks with students from the Older Adult Learning Center in East Stroudsburg for an intergenerational collaborative course on happiness and the meaning of life. As part of an introduction to philosophy class taught by Tim Connolly, Ph.D., professor of philosophy and religious studies, the older and younger students discussed questions about the definition of happiness and its basic components, whether happiness is determined by individual choice or genetic and environmental factors, and the connection between a happy life and a meaningful one.

East Stroudsburg University's student group PRIDE (People Representing Individual Diversity in Education) will host guest speaker Tyler Titus. Titus became the first openly transgender person to be elected in Pennsylvania when he won a seat on the Erie School Board in 2017. He will speak on campus on March 22, 2018, in Stroud Hall room 113 at 7:30 p.m.

Starting this fall, East Stroudsburg University will become the first public university in Pennsylvania to guarantee the same fixed-rate tuition for all four years for degree-seeking undergraduate students.

Building a community is the focus of Godspell, the classic musical of the 1970s being performed February 28 and March 1-4 by East Stroudsburg University's department of theatre.

Active Minds, an East Stroudsburg University student organization that strives to change the conversation about mental health, is accepting submissions for an upcoming art exhibit titled Piece of Mind: An Exhibit with a Focus on Mental Health. Submissions will be accepted in the mediums of drawing, graphic design, painting, and visual poetry/spoken word. Each piece should depict something related to mental health.

Interning at a hospital technology department after their freshman year at East Stroudsburg University, Zach Waldman and Nick Neely got tired of having to stop projects to go fix the computers of employees who had accidently downloaded malware while clicking on ads.

East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania selected the winners for the 2018 Boddie Scholarship, Martin Luther King Jr. awards, and the Julianna V. Bolt Art Contest. The winners will be recognized at the 21st annual Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Celebration Breakfast, which will be held on January 15 in the Mattioli Recreation Center on ESU's campus from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m.

When the fall 2017 semester ended last December, 11 students at East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania began preparing for the international European Union Simulation (Eurosim). As part of a political science course offered over winter break the students, accompanied by L. Johan Eliasson, Ph.D., professor of political science, participated in Eurosim in Brussels, Belgium from January 4-7, 2018. The rigorous, four-day exercise strives to enhance participants' knowledge of international law, the European Union (the world's largest single market, largest economy, and emerging political union, consisting of 28 member states), negotiating strategy, and diplomatic protocol, by negotiating real life legal and policy problems. The 2018 simulation was held at the Free University in Brussels.
